FHS 2018 General Member Meeting and Open House

On Saturday, June 2nd, the Historical Society held its annual General Member Meeting and Open House, a combination of a “State of the Society” address, updating both members and general public on the achievements of the past year, as well as plans for the current year; a business meeting to fill Board vacancies; and honoring the Historical Society tradition of granting awards to the Fallbrook Pioneer of the Year, The Vintage Business of the Year, and the Historical Society Member of the Year.

Roy Moosa, Historical Society President, presided with an overview of achievements and plans.  Notable achievements include the reconstruction of Eric Hindorff’s adobe on the grounds of the Reche Schoolhouse, the digitization of vintage Fallbrook newspapers, and continued smooth operations and rising attendance at The Heritage Center, among others.

Five Board Members were confirmed by the membership, including the reappointment of Scott Atkins, Jim Foster, and Marianne Dickey, and the appointment of new Board Members, Vicky O’Kelly and Jauher Zaidi.

Having “taken care of business”, the event turned more festive with the announcement of this year’s award winners:

  • Pioneer of the Year – Ralph Foster
  • Member of the Year – Sherry Folsom
  • Vintage Business of the Year – Del Rey Avocado Company

Additionally, two of Fallbrook’s youths were recognized with certificates for their contributions to the Historical Society.

  • Mason Houskeeper – for his support in the Society’s Oral Histories project
  • Greg Laurance – for his role as a Junior Docent at The Heritage Center

Following the formal activities of the event, everyone was invited to enjoy the Open House, participate in the silent auction, and enjoy the available refreshments.  As always, “a good time was had by all”.
